This seminar provides the project professional with all the “people skills” (communication techniques, conflict resolution skills, leadership roles and competencies, motivating and coaching team members, etc.) and understanding of “emotional intelligence” required for project success and career advancement.
This seminar takes an innovative approach in providing you with practical skills you can use to address the messy people issues in project management. You also gain valuable skills in areas of managing your own stress and managing your own career direction. The presenters have experience in managing projects in public and private settings. Steve Flannes and Larry Butler have presented this seminar in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom for PMI SeminarsWorld and Global Congresses every year since 2003. Additionally, they have presented this seminar to Russian and Ukrainian project managers in Kiev, Ukraine. Dr. Flannes is the co-author of Essential People Skills for Project Managers (2005); this book is provided to each attendee.

Your seminar experience will cover:
- Interpersonal Communication Skills: Identify and practice skills such as tracking the communication, active listening, open-ended questions, and reframing, plus a knowledge of the basic concepts and skills of “emotional intelligence.”
- Identifying Individual Differences: Discover methods for identifying individual personality differences among team members, plus implications for determining the communication, decision making, and learning styles of your team members.
- Motivating the Individual and the Team: Learn how to create tailored motivation approaches for each team member, and the team as a unit, using a framework consisting of knowledge of individual style and career values.
- Identify Four Distinct Leadership Roles that are crucial for project success, such as the functions of manager, leader, facilitator, and mentor.
- Determine Your Own Personal Style for Conflict Resolution by completing a conflict resolution instrument. Practice distinct methods and strategies for conflict resolution, and gain the knowledge of when to use each approach
- Handling Critical Incidents on the Team: What is a critical incident, and how does such a traumatic experience impact individual and team performance? Discover the resources that can be used to assist team members return to optimal levels of functioning.
- Managing Personal Stress: Learn about five distinct, research based approaches to reducing stress, and have the opportunity to try each of the approaches during the seminar.
- Personal Career Management: Discover how six specific career management tools (active resumes, informational interviews, networking, two minute introductions, interviewing best practices, and “qualifying” references) can help you advance in your career.
- Apply People Skills to Virtual Teams: Lessons learned from virtual teams will be presented in addressing the subject of how to address people issues on virtual teams.
