Easily Estimate Projects Using Statistical PERT NA16EXC10

Monday, September 26, 2016 3:15 PM — 4:45 PM

Want to make confident estimates and quickly align stakeholder expectations? How confident do you need to be? In this presentation, you'll learn how to use Microsoft Excel's built-in statistical functions and a new estimation technique called Statistical PERT. Statistical PERT lets estimators easily make probabilistic estimates for virtually any bell-shaped uncertainty. All participants receive access to use Statistical PERT Excel templates.

Learning Objectives:

  • To level-set the audience on statistical terminology such as mean, median, mode, the normal probability curve, standard deviation

  • To contrast deterministic estimates from probabilistic estimates

  • To explain and demonstrate how Statistical PERT is performed through the use of a PowerPoint presentation and a live demonstration using a blank Microsoft Excel workbook

  • To examine a Statistical PERT Excel template, and learn in what ways the template can be altered to adapt the technique to specific estimation scenarios, such as estimating project costs or task duration
