Competing on the Edge: Strategy as Structured Chaos
By Kathleen M. Eisenhardt and Shona L. Brown

Dr. Kathleen Eisenhardt, a conference plenary speaker and a leading Stanford strategy professor, will sign this book at the PMI Bookstore. Please return to this page later to see the information on the times of the signing.

The book’s cop-author, Shona L. Brown, is a senior Vice President at Google.

Frequent, high-velocity change is the norm for many organizations. Competing on the edge is strategy for that kind environment. To compete on the edge, is to chart a course where compromise is struck between being efficient and being flexible. Original concepts like “strategy as simple rules”, “patching” and “time-pacing” drawn from the complexity sciences help guide the way. Building on their in-depth research with 12 global businesses and interviews with more than 100 executives, the authors use real-world examples to showcase competing on the edge.  Inspired by theories of science and yet grounded in reality that inform every aspect of this thought-provoking book coalesce into a surprising strategy that works – when change is the name of the game.

Immunity to Change: How to Overcome It and Unlock the Potential in Yourself and Your Organization (Leadership for the Common Good)
By Robert Kegan and Lisa Lahey

Dr. Lisa Lahey, a conference plenary speaker and an associate director of the Change Leadership Group at the Graduate School of Education at Harvard University, will sign this book at the PMI Bookstore. Please return to this page later to see the information on the times of the signing.

A recent study showed that when doctors tell heart patients they will die if they don't change their habits, only one in seven will be able to follow through successfully. Desire and motivation aren't enough: even when it's literally a matter of life or death, the ability to change remains maddeningly elusive.

Given that the status quo is so potent, how can we change ourselves and our organizations?

In Immunity to Change, authors Robert Kegan and Lisa Lahey show how our individual beliefs along with the collective mind-sets in our organizations combine to create a natural but powerful immunity to change. By revealing how this mechanism holds us back, Kegan and Lahey give us the keys to unlock our potential and finally move forward. And by pinpointing and uprooting our own immunities to change, we can bring our organizations forward with us.

This persuasive and practical book, filled with hands-on diagnostics and compelling case studies, delivers the tools you need to overcome the forces of inertia and transform your life and your work.

Beyond E-Learning: Approaches and Technologies to Enhance Knowledge, Learning and Performance
By Marc Rosenberg

Beyond E-Learning, a sequel to the 2001 best-seller, E-Learning: Strategies for Delivering Knowledge in the Digital Ag, takes you on a journey from where you are right now to where you need to be. It begins with considerations of e-learning and learning technology, but ends focused on performance. The first of three parts, “Beyond E-Training,” begins with a realistic assessment of the current state of e-learning. Part Two, “Beyond the Classroom,” showcases many new non-training approaches that expand the notion of e-learning, learning in general and performance improvement. In Part Three, “Beyond Learning,” the book describes several cultural issues you must take into consideration if you want your efforts to be successful and sustainable.

Throughout the book are woven stories of organizations using new technologies and new approaches to learning to extend their reach and impact beyond the classroom. In addition, essays by leaders and practitioners punctuate the presentation with their own unique thoughts about the field and the opportunities before us. A series of appendixes provide additional information on e-learning topics, an assessment, and a resource list.

Dr. Marc Rosenberg will sign his book on Sunday, 11 July after 12:00 p.m. at the PMI Bookstore.
